what's happening

25-Mar-2008

Hi friends and fans! Just a quick update... The April issue of VOYA will have an essay of mine called "Losing at the Slot Machine," kind of a rant about young adult literature today. The magazine will also be available to read online, at VOYA's site. (I don't know the site address, but you can probably Google it. VOYA stands for Voice of Youth Advocates, if that helps)

Remember, you can read excerpts of my newer, not yet published works at www.writing.com/authors/shelley2007. You can post a review at that site, or go to the discussion page at my site, www.shelleystoehr.com and post comments there. Love to hear from you guys. Also, my Myspace URL is www.myspace.com/crossesshelley

Young Adult Fiction
Crosses
Nancy and Katie are best friends with one big thing in common -- they both cut themselves, “Not by accident, we do it purposely -- and regularly -- because physical pain is comforting, and because now it has become a habit.”
Weird on the Outside
When sixteen-year-old Tracey runs away she finds that making ends meet in New York City for a young girl with few real skills is nearly impossible. That’s when Tracey becomes Amanda, a topless dancer.
Tomorrow Wendy
“I’ve discovered that if you wear a big enough hat, no one worries much about what’s going on inside your head,” says Cary. And no one, not even her boyfriend, Danny, knows about the things inside Cary’s head. Especially the feelings she has for Wendy, a girl with bright green hair and hard-candy sadness in her eyes.
